OUR PROGRAMMING & OUR ARTISTS

We feature solo shows for emerging to mid-career artists who produce work of high conceptual, technical and/or aesthetic value. We also collaborate with independent curators on group shows highlighting work that meet these same tenets. Central to us in our selection of artists and curators is the answer to two important questions: (1) "Is this a 'good' person who is 'nice' to work with?" and (2) Can we design a unique space and curate a cohesive commercial inventory around their work?" In addition to showcasing artists in our gallery, we also represent artists within our back room, flat file and online collections.

SUBMIT YOUR PROPOSAL

We are currently accepting proposals for our 2011-2012 year. Contingent upon our as-of-yet-unmade decision about whether or not to stay in business for another year at our current location or to become an online-only creativity and commerce collective, we are tentatively programming art for the months of September 2011 through June of 2012. The deadline for proposals is June 1, 2011. Please visit our space, explore our website and blog, review our past programming, and get to know us a bit before submitting the following information to info@goldenruleportland.com:

1. An artist/curator statement and/or a CV
2. A portfolio/website containing 10-20 images of past or current work
3. A proposal of intent detailing your vision for a solo or group show at Golden Rule
4. A brief paragraph explaining your understanding of what we do, what we're all about and any direct or indirect experience you have with us
5. A brief paragraph suggesting conceptual, metaphorical, textural and/or literal bridges we might make between your work and our commercial inventory
6. The names, numbers, and email addresses of three references who can speak to your personal kindness and artistic prowess

7. Anything else you'd like us to know about you or your art

Your proposal will be reviewed by an informal jury of our past artists, consignors, designers, and other members of the Portland creativity and commerce world.  Our decisions will be made by September 1, 2011. Those who are not selected for solo or group shows may still be selected for representation within our back room, flat file and/or online collections. In the event that we go out of business at our brick-and-mortar location we will make all efforts to support selected artists in securing shows at alternative local venues with whom we have established relationships.
