Today Golden Rule was blessed with a visit by my high school friend Crystal Rice (who was instrumental in the clearing out of my mother's house) and pre-school friend Mara Nunamaker (who I used to play mermaid with at YMCA day camp). Super rad. In the $5 pile Crystal found herself on of the infamous I HATE HANFORD shirts we made for our senior yell! If any of you other Hanford haters want to take a trip down memory lane, we still have two white shirts and 3 black shirts in our collection. Xoxo. Add Comment Tons of thanks to customer Jamie McMullen for sharing these photos by Parker Fitzgerald of her band, Great Wilderness, featuring a blue silk dress purchased here. If you have photos of yourself in clothes from our space, please share them! One of our favorite people in the world, Patrick Long (the man behind Chester Wallace), stopped by yesterday with the perfect "Wynde Bag" (that's what he calls it!). For some time now we'd been threatening to do a trade, but the perfect color/material combination hadn't quite walked in the door at Stand Up Comedy up front or Canoe downtown. Good thing I waited: I'd planned on using this bad boy as a overnight/art supply/sauna supply/extra stuff bag, but after getting it, I'm afraid I'm going to have to retire my incredible bag by Dean Accessories in Silverlake, LA, whatever. This Chester Wallace magic has all the perfect pockets in all the right places (the other bag was sans pockets) and it stands up nice in the car (the other flopped over). We love it when people come in and have a great experience and unbeknown to us also happen to be bloggers. These kids were SUPER nice, good for procrastinatory gibber-jabber and waffle cart referrals, and we're super grateful for the inclusion! Also, check out their e-commerce site! It is EXACTLY what we should someday aspire to have ours look like (hint-hint web developers out there who want 20% off for life . . . ) and all you cat lovers will love their carefully curated dreamcat blog, too! I was interrupted by visitors during my morning dance by myself session. Multitasking between conversation and dancing is a challenge. They do involve the company of Melissa De Merit and Kindra Adair and a dancing Mr. Yam Yams, however. If you like the music in these 1, 2, 3 videos, you can check out Jordaan Mason and the Horse Museum on their MySpace. I ordered the CD and cannot stop listening to it. I super duper hope they come to Portland some day and play here! Re: photos of giant wooden penis purchased during First Friday, but totally hilarious out-of-context. We had our best night ever in no small part due to the awesome press we got from The Portland Mercury, Rob Wilcox's Portland Or Us Now Blog, Portland Monthly Magazine's Culturephile Arts Blog, and PDX Ultra. Thank you, members of the press, for paying attention to our press releases. Thank you, also, loyal friends of Golden Rule and Delphine Bedient! Here are some snapshots we took during the event to curb our social anxiety (the hiding behind a camera really helps with this). Huge thanks, also, to all the customers who broke the retail rule and actually looked in drawers. We were a little suspicious of putting 1/3 of our artifact/jewelry inventory in the 10-drawer flat files, but up overcame this obstacle and explored within. Huge thanks to everyone for not drinking two cases of wine, like last month! One case we can handle, two cases, not so much! Super huge thanks, also, to Jamieson and Joe for manning the transaction table, and to Ronit or taking photos (not these). Xoxo. Many folks told us not to part with our mother's giant wooden penis. We tried to leave it in California. Somehow it got packed. Back at home in Portland we tried to cover it in a brown paper bag, but a housemate kept putting it on the mantle, or the kitchen counter. We finally brought it to the space in July, with a tag that said, " Nice piece of wood. Inquire at counter for price." This lovely couple from Vancouver, BC, finally took it away from us. You can see it sticking out of the fellow's bag in the photos above, yes? Well, apparently he has a female friend with whom he trades phallic birthday presents. Each year they try to one-up each other. He's pretty sure this year he'll take the cake. Her birthday is coming soon, so we're hoping for photos. We are SO glad we stayed late to get that newsletter out! Such a nice visit from our dear friend BTC and his new truck. | Our ability to continue this labor of love depends on you!
