Thanks to everyone who came out last Friday for the opening for Snowcones by Tess Bidelspach and Viola Brown, two artists from Project Grow who are doing some fascinating fiber arts work. Check out Tess' clothes here, or stop by the space to see them in the flesh. And while you're at it, contribute to our snow cone themed mural and the collaborative window piece! 1 Comment Rebecca Peel, our lovely model with downturned lips and downturned eyes, has a show up now at Worksound that will be pretty eerie for anyone who's been paying attention to our March and April lookbooks. She's filled an entire room with laptop tracings of her facebook photos, many of which were taken by yours truly. It is SO EFFING EERIE to see one's photos drawn! While you're at Worksound, make sure to check out the large-scale works by Nim Wunnan, our solo artist for March 2011. Leave it to Portland to pour! But the show must go on, eh. This Saturday and Sunday from 12-6 p.m. we're holding a furniture clearing house in the garage at 3816 SE Lafayette Ct., Portland, OR. 97202, which is one block South of Powell and one block West of 39th/Cesar Chavez). Please come! We'll be BBQ-ing in the back, sipping on adult beverages, and clearing out the basement to make way for our new private showroom (which you can get a sneak peak at if you've never seen our whole collection all in one place at one time (it's pretty impressive)! Feel free to bring stuff to sell, also. It's gunna be a good time! In addition to everything you see here (pretty much just Wynde's and Melissa De Merit's stuff), several other consignors, volunteers, neighbors and Golden Rule community members will be bringing their goods. We've got an event tent set up outside, and we think it would be SUPER rad and totally hilarious if everyone else brought a camping tent to stay dry under! If you get lost or confused trying to find us, feel free to call (503) 863-1545 for directions or confidence boosting. Read more?
Last night we hosted our second Naked Lady Party and are excited to be donating left-overs (some with brand names like Betsey Johnson and J Jeans!) to p:ear, a non-profit arts organization that works with disadvantaged youth. If you missed this round, fear not, we host them on the last Thursday before the last Sunday of the month Mark your calendar for June 23rd! If you weren't able to make it to the party, make sure to stop by this weekend from 12-6 to dig through the leftovers in our $1-$5 pile before it heads to p:ear. This weekend we're also having a 40% off all non-consignment fashion sale, and our First Annual Community Appreciation Party/Garage Sale (which will take place at 3816 SE Lafayette Ct. NOT at Golden Rule) June's going to be a pretty exciting month here at Golden Rule. We're featuring two Project Grow fiber arts creatives, Tess Bidelspach and Viola Brown, we'll be inviting the public in to paint a collaborative mural with "snow cones" as the theme (per the artists' request), and we're going "theme off" in favor of summer wear and any and all locally designed fashion we can find. Wanna join in? If you've got any no longer useful to you green, blue or black water-based art supplies, we're taking donations for mural making! If not, stop by 12-6 and paint a snow cone! Also, if you're a local designer at any stage in your practice, we're actively seeking one-off apparel and accessory pieces for our June showcase of local design work, so please email us! Mark your calendars for next weekend when all the amazing clothes you saw in our May 2011 Christian/Carnival Lookbook will be marked down to 40% off (to do the math you multiply the price by .6 for the sale price). There's still tons of great stuff left! This sale will run concurrent with our montly $5-or-less make an offer pile, and this month it'll run concurrent with our First Annual Community Appreciation Party where you'll be able to score dirt cheap furniture and housewares during the BBQ! Two great reasons to head to the coast next weekend: (1) Portland psuedo-ex-pat Liz Haley (she's moved to the beach and we're SO envious) is having a show with Nikki McClure and Sophia Pfaff-Shalmiyev at the Cannon Beach Art Gallery which ends May 30th, so there's not much time left to see it, and (2) The Girabaldi House, where we shot our April 2011 Oregon Coast Lookbook, is a wonderful and affordable place to stay during your visit. Tell Carol and Eugene we sent you. They're rad. Moral of the story, if you're going to be ditching out on our monthly 40% off sale AND our First Annual Community Appreciation Party next weekend, we hope you'll be at the coast enjoying the sun, Liz's beautiful artwork, the comfy beds and yummy foods at The Girabaldi House, and maybe even doing a little thrifting and antiquing up and down the 101. If you are ready to hit the road and want some suggestions of places to score, please shoot us an email for some recommendations! Mark your calendars for May 28th and 29th when we're hosting our first annual community appreciation day! Rain or shine from noon to whenever the fun's over we'll be barbecuing yumminess, drinking adult beverages, selling our personal goods at yard sale prices, and informally sharing our appreciation to the past year's volunteers, interns, consignors, artists, and customers. If you fall into any of the above categories (or if you aspire to!) you're welcome to be a vendor or a visitor! This off-site event will run concurrent with our 40%-off non-consignment sale in the space and will feature dirt cheap prices on all furniture from past Golden Rule iterations. By the end of the weekend we hope to have cleared the basement floor to make way for our forthcoming shiny new by-appointment-only fashion showroom, which you can get a sneak peak of if you stop by! For more information see the FaceBook event listing for our First Annual Golden Rule Community Appreciation Days. This most recent First Friday opening was so sorely unattended on account of the YU opening of the PVCA Archives and the Mercury Fashion show. We had fun, though, and only went through three bottles of wine, which at least reduced our overhead! If you didn't get a chance to make it out for the opening, please stop by any day of the week to see our GIANT collaborative paintings by Violet Aveline and Matt DelBello. And don't forget to check out our awesome new collection of fashion and fun! Well, actually, this might have been the most un-naked naked lady party I've ever been to, but what it lacked in nudity it made up for in AWESOME clothes! Seriously, our 40+ super nice attendees really brought their A games and no one left dissatisfied. It was so much fun (if financially unprofitable!) we'll for sure do it again next month. Mark your calendars for Thursday, May 26! If you missed the fun, fear not, the remains of the day will stay at Golden Rule in our $1-$5 pile through Sunday at 6 p.m. when we'll take it to p:ear to benefit homeless youth. There is still TONS of really great stuff. Most people chose very sparingly, selecting only prize pieces. The usual competitive vibe was gone, and most were even willing to give up their goods to others! | Our ability to continue this labor of love depends on you!
